At the beginning of 2018, a small group of students had an idea.
Instead of throwing out unused clothes, school supplies and hygiene products, what if students could easily donate those items back to their peers?
The irony is not lost on us. Words, but no action.
These contradictions occurred well before our tenure as campus leaders but were first encountered within the 2019-2020 academic year during finals week of winter quarter.
“Hate speech is free speech.”
As a sophomore who was just getting acquainted with systems of authority at UCLA, this sobering truth sounded like an admission that we can’t do anything about hate speech on campus.
